Elements of a Successful CSR Plan
The growing corporate social responsibility (CSR) trend encourages positive interactions between a company and their stakeholders or environment. At the same time, successful CSR campaigns communicate the company's view of its role as a responsible corporate citizen.
Much like any other aspect of a business, CSR requires goals, teamwork and communication. Here are a few key elements to a successful CSR plan:
1. Build It into Your Business Model
Corporate social responsibility should be a strategic part of your business plan from the beginning, if possible. Effective CSR plans tie in with, and are supported by, the overall business model, making a social impact while strengthening the long-term business strategy.
2. Set Clear and Measurable Goals
To manage your CSR plan most effectively, define clear and measurable goals. Not only will this help measure performance and progress, but it will provide a finish line for those who work on CSR projects throughout the year.
3. Make It a Collaborative Effort
Rather than designating one team or department to manage your plan, get the entire organization involved. When everyone works on and invests in the CSR plan, it will better drive the company to meet your goals.
4. Communicate with Stakeholders
Internally, employee engagement is crucial to a successful plan. After all, they make up the company! Externally, communication with clients and shareholders can provide feedback on your progress and even highlight suggestions for improvement.
